January 06 2009 Denyse C. Selesnick, CEMWe certainly had a unique sense of timing------the day we sent our first newsletter The Global Glimpse featuring India was the day the terrorists attached Mumbai. In thinking about it though—it illustrates how volatile the international market can be. Does everyone now run away from participating in shows in India? Probably a few will, but most companies in the international arena have learned to take these types of things in stride. India is a resilient country. Some of the articles I’ve been reading are discussing where the “NEXT” developing market would surface. The BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China) each have great potential and challenges. The Global Glimpse will cover these in the next few months. Let us hope that there will not be any major catastrophes in 2009. IAEE’s Expo! Expo! was a big success. Miami did a great job and the food at the Miami Beach Convention Center was awesome - not at all like most of the convention center institutional food. The best part of Expo! Expo! for me is the chance to see so many old friends from around the world. A New Year and don’t we need it? I have come to the conclusion that economic cycles go up and go down. The really important things in life are good health, good friends, and close family. Everything else can be handled. That is my wish to you-- |
